Simon Mueller

Simon co-founded The Future Society in 2014 while a student at Harvard Kennedy School because of his firm belief that the rapid development of technology in our days poses unparalleled challenges for public decision makers and corporate leaders. At Harvard, Simon focused on technology governance, advanced analytics and strategic decision making.

At The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Simon advises CEOs and their teams in the domain of Robotics, Automation and Advanced Manufacturing (such as 3D-Printing and IoT). Over his 10 years at BCG, he has served private and public clients in over 25 countries. His functional focus ranges from strategic and growth to operations and implementation-driven topics. In his former position as the General Manager of the BCG Henderson Institute (BHI), the firm’s strategy think tank in New York City, he ran BHI’s operations and doubled its funding and international footprint within a year.

He currently serves as the Executive Director of the AI Initiative (AII), TFS’s platform that connects all AI governance-related projects. Simon also sits on the Policy Committee of the IEEE Global Initiative for Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems. Simon has been a frequent speaker, moderator and panel participant on the topics of automation, technology governance and decision-making at conferences around the world.

Simon studied economics at the Universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg, and public administration at Harvard Kennedy School of Governance.

His forthcoming book, “The Decision-Maker’s Playbook” (with co-author Julia Dhar) will be published by Financial Times Press in 2019.
