Will new European AI regulation have GDPR-like impact worldwide? @ MozFest 2021
March 15 2021
MozFest is a unique hybrid: part art, tech and society convening, part maker festival, and a gathering for activists in diverse global movements fighting for a more humane digital world.
The European Union is working on regulation that wants to ensure “Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence” by setting rules that would be enforceable in the EU. What will those rules look like, and how will they also guide AI developers outside of Europe? The EU set a global ‘gold standard’ with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that inspired other constituencies to advance their own privacy laws, a process that is still taking shape. Will the EU’s upcoming regulatory approach make AI “work for the wellbeing of citizens” by raising the bar for rights and principles, potentially globally?
Nicolas Miailhe, Co-Founder and President of TFS joined Ivana Bartoletti, Technical Director, Privacy at Deloitte, Julia Reinhardt, Mozilla Foundation Fellow in Residence and Branka Panic, Founder and Executive Director of AI for Peace in the panel: “Will new European AI regulation have GDPR-like impact worldwide?”.
