The Future Society is a think-and-do-tank specialized in questions of impact and governance of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies. We are looking for a new full-time AI policy researcher to join our team.

Our non-profit organization aims to address the profound consequences of the current technological explosion. Our Mission is to advance the global governance of Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies. Learn more about our work here: http://www.thefuturesociety.org/  

The new hire will focus on AI policy research including project management. Our research addresses a range of AI Policy topics, including AI ethics guidelines across sectors, policy frameworks for AI adoption in developing countries, AI for UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), global governance of AI, geopolitics of AI, policy & governance for ethics & safety risks, and more. We work with international organizations, development banks, national governments, companies, leading academic institutions, and more. Our partners include The World Bank, UNESCO, OECD, EY, Microsoft, The Future of Life Institute, leading academic institutions (e.g. Sciences Po Paris), and many more. AI policy researchers work directly with partners to help shape and advise AI policy approaches on a global scale. 

Duration: Unlimited

Location: Remote-based, in a European time zone

1. Tasks

  • AI policy research and analysis
  • Project management 
  • Writing reports on AI policy (drafting, editing) 
  • Event support and participation (e.g. the annual Global Governance of AI Roundtable) including opportunities for speaking
  • Network outreach and community management
  • Proposal drafting 

2. Required skills & traits

  • 3-7 years of professional (or PhD) experience
  • Passion and knowledge of AI policy topics
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent research, analysis and writing skills
  • Mastery of written English
  • Ability to work independently
  • Detail-oriented, organized, conscientious
  • Bachelors (Masters, PhD preferred) degree in a related field

3. Preferred skills & traits 

  • Experience in government, think-tanks, business, consulting, or academia
  • Bachelors, Masters or PhD in social sciences (e.g. public policy, political science, international affairs, economics) or a related field
  • Experience in policy analysis and writing
  • Experience using digital innovation tools and conducting large-scale consultations is a plus
  • Computer Science, Data Science and Machine learning (ML) experience and skills is a plus 
  • Diverse international background and experiences
  • Great team spirit
