Internet Governance Forum 2020: AI for SDGs and National AI Strategies

How can national AI strategies in the Global South support sustainable development and inclusive growth? How can they enable AI applications to increase access to goods and services, close gaps and support SDGs, while mitigating risks? The Future Society’s session ‘National AI Strategies & AI for Sustainable Development Goals’ addressed these questions at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2020 virtual conference on Nov 3. The event included broad audience participants and input from diverse countries and raised awareness about how national AI strategies can help countries navigate the rise of AI, to capture the benefits, build capacities, while ensuring governance and ethical precautions.
Yolanda Lannquist, Head of Research & Advisory, led the session including a case example of our collaboration developing Rwanda’s national AI policy with the Government of Rwanda and GIZ FAIR Forward. Co-presenters included Philip Gasaatura and Kim Schulte of GIZ FAIR Forward.
