Translating principles into practice: ‘Decision Points in AI Governance’ by Jessica Cussins Newman at UC Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity and Advisor to The Future Society.
Decision Points in AI Governance
May 11, 2020
Our Research Advisor Jessica Cussins Newman authored ‘Decision Points in AI Governance’ in UC Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity’s white paper series. The paper included contributions from Yolanda Lannquist, Nicolas Miailhe and Cyrus Hodes.
The AI Governance field has witnessed a rapid proliferation of AI principles and national strategies during the last years. Significant expansion of numerous principles from public, private and international actors raises an implementation gap given the pace and velocity at which AI systems percolate into society. The white paper maps the ongoing efforts and actors in the AI ecosystem for implementing ethical principles such as IEEE’s Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, the Global Governance of AI Forum and the OECD AI Policy Observatory, to all of which The Future Society is pleased to contribute. The white paper aims to help a broad range of AI actors draw from the challenges and successes in operationalizing AI principles through three case studies.
